5 Reasons You Should Add Blueberries to Your Recipe

Did you know, that there are blueberries and wild blueberries aka bilberries? Bilberries are healthier than blueberries. With a whopping four times the amount of antioxidants, fewer calories, and less sugar, the bilberry truly is the best berry around.

Reason 1: Bilberries Are Rich in Nutrients and Low in Sugar

Wild Nordic bilberries are a low-calorie but highly nutritious food.

A cup of bilberries (148 grams) only contains 85 calories. This means that if you’re on a 1,200, 1500, or even 2,000 calorie diet, you can comfortably have your fresh blueberries and still stick to your caloric intake.

A single serving of bilberries contains 33 percent of the recommended daily allowance of vitamin C. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that helps to fight off microbial issues such as the common cold.

Reason 2: Bilberries Have Potent Antioxidant Properties

Fresh blueberries are well known for being one of the richest natural sources of anthocyanins. Wild blueberries have more anthocyanins than other fresh berries, such as raspberries, cherries, strawberries, cranberries, or elderberries.

💡 Expert Tip:

The recommended daily intake of anthocyanins is 100 mcg per day. A single serving of wild blueberries provides between 300—700 mcg of anthocyanins.

Reason 3: Choose Wisely. Fresh or Frozen Blueberries? Dried Blueberries or Blueberry Powder?

In order to reap all the numerous health benefits of blueberries, they must be preserved. This can be done by various methods such as freezing, dehydrating, or freeze-drying.

Blueberries are more concentrated in the form of a powder. Just one tablespoon of blueberry powder is equivalent to ½ cup of fresh berries. Frozen blueberries doesn't have a chance!

Reason 4: Wild Blueberry Helps Trim Tummy Fat

Since these gut microbiota feed on the food you eat, their efficiency and supply depend on your ability to provide a microbe-friendly diet.

Nordic Wild Blueberries’ components provide an excellent environment for the microbes to thrive and multiply. They also aid the elimination of harmful bacteria living in your gut.

Reason 5: Wild Blueberries Improve Bowel Movement

Poor bowel movement involves constipation and severe abdominal pains that are caused by inadequate fiber intake.

Nordic Wild Blueberries contain 6g of dietary fiber — double the amount planted highbush blueberries contain.

So, as we concluded, blueberry powder or freeze-dried blueberries is the way to go! Forget frozen blueberries or blueberry extract and let's dive into recipes and explore the endless ways to use those bad boys!
