Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) is a mushroom that grows on birch trees throughout the northern hemisphere. It is super rich in a wide variety of vitamins, minerals and nutrients but is known as one of the best sources of antioxidants found in nature. Chaga has a lighter-colored inner part and a rough black exterior. The interior and the exterior contain different active ingredients and the best results are achieved when both parts are used together. To survive in the tough Nordic climate, the chaga mushroom has soaked up many natural compounds and has a very strong effect. People in Russia and Northern European countries have used chaga mushrooms traditionally for centuries. Chaga is mostly known for its efficiency in supporting the human cardiovascular and immune system. Potassium in chaga contributes to maintaining normal blood pressure, the normal functioning of the nervous system, and to normal muscle function. Tea or coffee made from chaga mushrooms has a mild and neutral taste. Let 0.5-1 tsp of the powder in a tightly woven tea bag soak in hot water, your favorite tea or coffee. Let infuse for 5 minutes, as hot water is the best way to extract chaga’s immune-boosting ingredients. Use with other teas or mixed into coffee, e.g. by adding 1-2 tsp of chaga powder to ground coffee. The flavor will be the same, but the health benefits will be immeasurable. Drink 2-3 cups of plant tea every day for up to 2 weeks to feel the benefit. The organic chaga powder is very fine and mixes easily in smoothies, yogurt, porridge, cereal flakes, muesli, and protein shakes. For greater nutritional benefit we recommend ingesting 1-2 tbsp a day for 2-3 weeks. For better results we do not recommend eating spicy foods or large amounts of meat or drinking alcohol during treatment with chaga.
